John Petropoulos, Fellow in Hellenic Civilization; Chairman of the Board of Directors

Professor John Petropoulos holds a B.A. in Classics from Harvard University and a DPhil. from the University of Oxford. Currently, Professor Petropoulos is Associate Professor of Ancient Greek Literature at the Democritean University of Thrace in the Department of Greek Philology. His areas of scholarly research include archaic literature and society (Homer, Hesiod, lyric poets, Homeric Hymns), Homer reception, Ancient Greek aesthetic philosophy, and ancient inscriptions of southern and western Thrace.

Professor Petropoulos is the author of Heat and Lust (Rowman and Littlefield, 1994) and Eroticism in Ancient and Medieval Greek Poetry (Duckworth, 2003). He is working on a forthcoming book entitled Kleos in a Minor Key: The Homeric Education of a Little Prince

Since 2003 Professor Petropoulos has been President of the Board of the Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece, and is now serving as Director of Research at the CHS in Greece.
