CHS Library Visitor Policies

Announcement

Because of a routine structural renovation, the CHS Library will be inaccessible from Monday, May 19 to Friday, July 11, 2008. Please plan visits accordingly.

Guidelines for Authorized Users

The Center's library is a non-circulating collection. Books may not be removed from the library. For information regarding application for visitor's privileges, please see our current visitor policies. Library visitors will be required to give their signed agreement to these policies before using the library.

The CHS library is normally open to post-doctoral classical scholars who are currently engaged in a specific research project. Access is limited to visitors whose research needs cannot be met by their home institution or by a public library such as the Library of Congress. Visitors are limited to fifteen (15) hours in the library stacks per week.

Potential Visitors are encouraged to consult the Center's library guidelines and Online Catalog to assess how they can best use the Center’s resources. Additionally, some researchers may find that the Library of Congress can adequately serve their needs.

Library Visitors must give their signed agreement to the following policies regarding their use of the library. These policies are necessary because of the increased demands on the resources of the Center, concern for security, and the fragility of much of the library collection. Visitors who fail to adhere to these policies may lose their Library privileges.

Please Note: Books may not be removed from the Library building under any circumstances.
