About the Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece

The Nafplion Center for Hellenic Studies is the most ambitious effort yet to expand the offerings of the CHS. Through this initiative, the CHS team is creating a global platform from which to promote the value of Hellenic studies. The Nafplion Center is a key part of Harvard’s continuing effort to support researchers and students who wish to explore the relationships between Eastern and Western cultures as well as the many facets of Hellenic civilization.

The Nafplion Center was created in 2006 after a joint decision by Harvard University's Provost and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. It is part of an effort to expand Harvard University's international presence utilizing the knowledge and expertise of Harvard's many faculties and research centers. Other Harvard international offices are located in Santiago, Chile; Sao Paolo, Brazil; Mumbai, India; and Nicosia, Cyprus. More information on Harvard's international initiatives can be found on the Harvard Provost's Office website

A joint Harvard-Greek Steering Committee leads the Center for Hellenic Studies in Nafplion. The Director of Research in Nafplion is John Petropoulos. The CHS Nafplion offers resources to students, faculty, and scholars at its facility in Nafplion. A regular program of activities and events for the Harvard community as well as the local community in Greece is underway.
